Youths of any nation are looked upon as the torch bearers who will lead the nation into the future, be it in the field of economics, politics, education, technology or socio-cultural realm. Various forms of support have to be made available so that this generation of citizens can acquire the requisite skills and knowledge essential for their human capital development. The onus is on the State, governmental and non-governmental foundations, corporate bodies and other non-profit organisations to assist in building a human capital ecosystem that drives sustainable social and humanitarian development. This is based on the understanding that the status of the human capital affects their ability to acquire a good education, find and retain a decent work and improve their basic standard of living and eventually contribute to the overall development of the nation.
PICC, though a Trade Chamber that conducts business-related activities and programmes for its members, has taken upon itself the additional task and responsibility to gradually transform the youths of the nation to become responsible and law-abiding citizens. Thus, as part of PICC’s long term vision to expose students and youths to ideas and knowledge that will be helpful in their human capital development, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between “PICC” and “Abdul Kalam Vision India Movement” by which these two organizations agreed to work together to empower students and youths of Malaysia in aspects of Self Development, Skills Development, Sustainable Development and Creative Leadership Development.
It is in this context that PICC has initiated Human Capital Development Workshops that will nurture positive values, attitudes and skills aimed at the creation of holistic individuals who are ably prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
As the proposed workshops are focused on youths and students with average academic performance, nurturing them with entrepreneurship education and training will provide a platform for them to build a career in entrepreneurship. They will learn to be creative, self-reliant, confident and motivated. This will help them to start up their own businesses in future and assure a better socio-economic status for themselves. The planned workshops are a reflection of the developmental needs to transform the youths by motivating them initially, then taking them through a process of self-awareness and finally assisting them in self-development through entrepreneurship and skills development.
This initiative is in line with the strategy of Perak Indian Chamber of Commerce to create new young entrepreneurs and elevate them to the next level of sustainable business growth and become success stories.
PICC’s corporate social responsibility extends into this realm of activities to motivate and guide the modern day youths to pursue excellence in all their undertakings, including in their acquisition of knowledge and skills and in other social pursuits. The globalised world needs individuals who are multi-skilled and multi-talented to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
